My wife and I were sitting in a restaurant sharing a hamburger today. The restaurant was offering a free burger to any veteran who registered in their royalty program by Nov 1. I looked out the window and saw a man in full dress uniform climb out of a car. He had a white cane and a silver coronet under his arm. He walked to the restaurant unassisted leaving his driver at the car. He came into the lobby and proceeded to play taps so beautifully that it brought tears to your eyes. He stopped, picked up a carryout, and walked back to his car. He was not hired and, apparently, unexpected. I glanced over at the bar and the bartender had tears. It was something to hear. There is nothing quite like taps when it is played right.
