I buy a lot of parts for large commercial projects. Shortages are hitting every sector. Raw process material has been especially hit hard, like stainless sheet, cold rolled sheet, and aluminum extrusion. Materials that used to be in stock are now to 8-10 weeks if you can get them. That delay gets pushed thru the entire supply chain so the finished parts coming out the other end are even more delayed. Right now I have a semi load of enclosures we can ship today but we do not have the screws to install the covers. Enclosures go in before the conduit, conduit before the wiring is pulled, walls can't close up until wiring is done, paint and finish can't go on until walls are closed, etc. etc. So we just keep falling over each other again and again.
If you follow Metal Market, a lot of the plant hours are up to same as two years ago, but the output in product is 7-8% less. Reasons might be less experienced workers, struggles getting their raw materials, and machine breakdowns take longer because those parts are short too. One supposed expert says the cost of metcoke (metallurgical coal) is now more than the ore itself, so some of the pain might be self inflicted. They say those plants are switching to smelting scrap but I'm not sure they can make that change that easily. One thing for sure, no one in my part of the world is seeing any relief anytime soon.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
