The original was a 53 block and it cracked it didnt have only about 200,000 miles on it there are 5 53 blocks right in this area that are cracked . I traded for a replacement block it was actually another 53 out of an automatic truck that had 650,000 miles on it that hadnt cracked but I didnt want to chance reusing that block . I have another 1998 3500 with a 24 valve thats a 53 block with over 340,000 miles and no cracks . Crummins got away with a pretty good trick on that 53 block deal . I had actually repaired the crack but then as luck would have it I lost an oil cooler and filled the crankcase with antifreeze and lost a rod bearing. When I drained the oil 2 gallon of antifreeze came Out that was clean you could of reused it
