I have dads H, 300, and Ollie S77 (was my uncles). And a Ford 960 to throw that color in the mix.
The 300 had a lot of features for a mid 1950s tractor. Live hydraulics, torq for on the go hi low shifting and giving 10 forward 2 reverse gears, power steering, the 2 point fast hitch, independent pto.
That was in keeping or ahead of most of the other colors.
The Fast hitch didnt pan out over the years but it was a pretty good deal compared to bolting stuff on the back hitch, the 3 point was still under patent. JD had nothing?
The 4 cyl engine was better on pto equipment than the 2 bangers.
Very popular upgrade to an H around here.
Dad bought it because his shoulder went out he could not operate the pull type combine lever to raise the head. He could use the Fast hitch.
He used his Oliver 88 as the heavy tillage tractor, and the IHC 300 did most everything else. Light tillage, mounted Case corn planter, belly mount row cultivator, baling, pulling through combine. Feed grinder for cattle, hogs, chickens. Was a very busy tractor on 200 acres.
Nice features. One negative it didnt have a great turning ability, was a challenge to turn on the headlands in 4 row wide planting and cultivating.
The Oliver S77 and Ford were somewhat equal but different, they came along later. The Ford was nice, it was the first 3 point tractor on the place.

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
