The Dodge/Cummins pickup guys up north use their block heaters, but the oil in the pan is still like tar. Most are using the oil pan heater pads that silicone up to the bottom of the pan & warm the entire oil supply,(from JC Whitney, etc) plus the block heater. The dipstick, like someone just said, only heat the oil locally, and you used to have to worry about frying the oil that was close to the stick.....DDG
