For a new driveway don't waist your money on 57's, on soft ground it's not big enough to build a base and on hard ground it won't stay in place
There's two ways to build a road base in my area
1 Put down large stone like #3 or 4's and pack it in until a base is formed, then top it with a smaller stone that contains a good bit of fines to seal off the surface
2 Put down woven geotextile fabric and a 4-6 inch layer of crushed stone with fines, here I use 610 limestone which is 57 size down to dust, once it's packed down it creates a good base and the fines help seal off the surface to prevent moisture from leaching thru and creating mud below the textile fabric.
We chose the #2 way when putting in the driveways and parking area for our poultry operation
After removing the top soil we layed down woven geotextile fabric and then 6 inches of 610 gravel on top back spreading so that the trucks tires packed the stone in the tracks as it was spread
These driveways and parking area have been in place for 15 years now with only 3 top coats of 610 gravel during that time with a traffic volume of 30 loaded semi's per month plus over 100 trips per month in our pickups.

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
