M&W listed the compression ratio for a SM with their two raised places on pistons as 6.4 with a 8060 or 8574 gas head, same pistons with a 400 or 450 gas head 6.8. Standard elevation piston. Don't think a standard elevation fire crater would make any more and maybe a little less. IH used to make some step head high elevation pistons that would make more compression than the fire craters. Used to make some high elevation fire craters also. Lots of different piston top types around so no clear cut answer. LP gas on a 400 or 450 with flat tops was 8.5 with a small combustion chamber head except the early 400 LP that used the gasoline head with a raised piston that made 8.76.
