I'm not THE expert on things, but, I have learned over the years that you're better off to heat the case up with a lamp for a few hours and bite the bullet and go down to TSC or some place and get a couple of buckets of tranny oil. When you return, DRAIN the entire transmission, put on a new filter and change the oil. The water in there will eventually ruin the bearings and quills and cost one hell of a lot more to replace later.
As I have gotten older, I became much smarter. In recent years, I've started forgetting all of that smart. But, that's something I still remember.
