I wish SVcummins many good yrs of service . RichardG comment about how many rebuilds got me to thinking . I helped do a 283 about 1970,Then helped a friend do a 340 Dodge Duster , Dad and I tackled a DC Case , a 300 Case , 800 Case diesel followed, Those were all Dads projects . I have done 2 430 Case 188 Diesels , A 3010 JD Gasser ,429 Mercury Marquis engine, Another DC , A 730 Case Gasser , then a SC , then another 800 Diesel. the worst offender has been My Yanmar diesel , Going in for 3 rd time rebuild ! .. Long STORY on all the reasons Why , it was not tractors fault or mine except for allowing idiots to get on the poor thing ! One of my helpers ran it out of fuel while i was sick with china flu . He wanted to solve his problem without telling me ( and also because I told him that tractor might need fuel ) . you guessed it, over ethered it !and blew a piston ring set into the pan ,! The Yanmar has a Decompresser but he was not well versed on how everything worked , NEW RULE .. NO ONE ethers any Engine Unless I am there supervising.. ShheeSH , At $1000 dollars per engine , And that is low for the cost of a rebuild . I have spent some serious bucks overhauling engines . and I am 65 . The last few have cost a bunch more than a thousand each because i hired the work out. I spent 5 K to rebuild a in frame 1070 Case last spring , only to break the crankshaft some 10 hours after she drove out of the shop .. Lucky Me , i got a Crankshaft refurbished for 600 dollars . Yes Farming is expensive lifestyle , Sometimes a guy Gets Lucky , most Times Not . I should a made this a seperate post ..Good Luck Guys !
