For some reason I had it in my head you were running a front end loader. The tires were loaded on the M as well but like you and I both hinted at more ballast is needed whether it be additional weights or otherwise. I went by a place while a student at Alfred State down in the Southern Tier where the farm owner had several weights on each side of an AC WD45 with back blade. Getting back to the M the reason dad did what he did is he had to go quickly from cleaning the driveway so the milk truck could get in to scraping the freestall barn which had a concrete floor. He did not want to spend the better part of a half hour each time going to or from chains on the wheels. Also, in later years he would run down to the neighbor to push out their driveway and did not want any fuss from the town about running chains on a cleaned road.
