The Big Time Operator neighbor I worked for many years, spring 1968 till about 1977-'78 always had a NFE 4020 and a WFE 4020 or 4320, and eventually a 4230 with M&W turbo. The side console 4020 NFE was my favorite, I used it to plow, disk, chop haylage, I preferred the Roll-a-Matic over a WFE. In our neighborhood about 1/3 of the 4020's were NFE, 2/3 were wfe. He even had a well used gas 4020 WFE that I ran a bit. One night after I went home for supper I came back to finish plowing one of his 80 acre fields, that gas 4020 was the only tractor available. I normally plowed in 5th with any 4020 diesel or 4320, the gas would only pull 4th, 16 half mile rounds per tank of gas, where a diesel would do almost twice that many. I was gassing up for the third time that night about 4 AM when the boss was coming out to start chores, and I'm about ready to head back out and a car turns into his yard, Dad coming to chase me home. Hey, I was a college kid, I'd done lots of All Nighters. I went home, napped a couple hours, headed back and the 4020 gas and all the diesels were gone. Think I hauled manure that day.

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
