Got some temps in mid 30's this morning and some predicted next weekend so I will hold off another week and see what the forecast is. Once we get a weeks forecast with no 30's predicted I will start corn. Usually happens last week of February or first week of March. But I only plant a home garden so if I jump the gun and have to replant it is no big deal. This is in SE La.
But spring is the wrong time frame to look if you are looking for first corn planted. This is a picture I took in February a few years ago just south of Lake Okeechobee in Florida. I know the picture is bad because of the sun location but it is corn tall enough it is starting to tassel. Granted this is far enough south they rarely if almost never get cold enough for a frost but they grow corn in the winter because of so many bugs that attack the corn in the heat of summer.
