I guess what it really boils down to is that there are several different versions . The factory aspirated air cleaner systems on the IH tractors were pretty hard to see as many models everything was under the hood and some had just the hose on top to a straight pipe. Muffler and air cleaner under the hood.
I don't know about the other makes. Can't remember them all. But like I said, lot of old Farmalls with muffler on top and a stove around muffler to heat and dry the air going to air cleaner to carburetor. Nothing on older diesels of course.
