There are ways to lock in prices on your income as well. You can sell your future grain under contract. That will lock your grain in at a certain price. You can also play the futures board on grain and livestock. And then there is insurance. If your very financed at all, your creditor is more than likely going to require you to have your crops and livestock insured. Kind of like being required to have full coverage insurance on a mortgaged vehicle. Maybe not the same as selling under contract, but you can protect yourself against certain disasters such as hail on crops, or lightning on livestock. So, there are likewise avenues in the income side of things, along with the expense side of things. In theory, you could probably farm entirely on paper and over the phone, and never leave your office. LOL. Kind of like playing a computer game. LOL. But all jokes aside, if you don't apply it to actual farming, and producing a commodity in the end, and using these abilities only as a tool, then it's basically just gambling. Which, in reality, it is anyways. The simplest of simplest decision in farming, can be a gamble.
