Around here, a steep roof pitch is on many older homes and barns because wood shingles shed the water so much better when it is steep. My late uncles house near here has a roof that is probably about a 14 12 pitch. I should know as my brother and I reroofed it many years ago. Had to tie ourselves on with long ropes. When it was replaced with metal a few years ago, they took off 6 layers of asphalt and the bottom layer of wood shingles. Richard in NW SC
