I am a fanatic about lubing hood hinges. The later 73 and up chebbys will bend the hood before they break out.
I have seen some serious damage from weak springs and those gas hood lift supports (don't ask how I know) If they are week that's the first conversation we have.
To make a long story short I had a Mercedes on the lift for a day with the hood up when I got done under it the battery was dead.
I put my battery charger on it and walked away all of a sudden the hood fell. The charging clamp burnt a big round spot in the hood.
I did not pay for it he knew the hood supports and battery were bad. His bud told me he held the hood up to jump it off several times. Ha ha what are buddy's for. : )
