49WD stuck in reverse

While plowing snow today(Mich.)tractor wont come out of reverse.The shift handle is floppy.
I believe this is an early mdl.(straight handle on a cast pedistal)and will have to remove the top af the trans housing.Does the lever go into the yoaks directly or is there linkage within.(no books yet on this machine)
