Wow, that is a lot to check. Ok. So I will try that paper clip idea after the next time the tractor fails. The tractor has an electronic ignition and not points, and no condenser either. The coil is the original Napa coil for a 12v system. I tried a new coil last fall and that did not solve the issue so i put original back on. The coil is mounted horizontally...is that maybe an issue? Not sure if they were originally supposed to be vertical mount? Also, i felt the coil yesterday when the tractor quit on me and it was not too hot to touch.
The plug wires are in good condition and Napa as well have been on the tractor for 6 years.
Another thing i have failed to mention is that when the tractor starts to sputter before it stalls if i pull the choke out it will keep the tractor running, though its not strong and still sputters. And, if i catch it sputtering quick enough and can clutch and turn off the pto, then i can usually turn down the throttle and get the tractor to not only keep going without the choke but also recover the tractor to keep going.
