I would revisit the ignition.
Could be the points, out of adjustment, burned, something loose, bad condenser.
Assuming it is battery ignition, could also be the ignition switch making intermittent contact.
A test light will be helpful.
Connect it to the ignition side of the coil, it should always be on when the switch is on. Try wiggling the switch, see if the light flickers or goes off.
Connect it to the distributor side of the coil, it should flash when cranking. On when the points are open, off when the points close. If it's always on, the points are not making contact. Always off, the points are closed, or the coil is losing power from the switch.
The ultimate test though is spark at the plug end of each plug wire. Should get a 1/4 inch spark to ground at each wire.
As for the carb dripping after a failed start, that is normal, it's gas draining back down out of the manifold. A true flooding carb will drip, and continue to drip any time the fuel valve is open. It will also run rich, black smoke, load up and die at idle.
But there could be a fuel contamination problem. Get a clean glass, remove the drain plug from the carb bowl, catch the gas in the glass, see what you get. Look for water or trash in the bottom of the glass. If there is water, the tank is contaminated and needs to be removed and cleaned out.

Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
