In picking up tads of news here and there, some time ago I read somewhere that digging on the beaches in New England had and will uncover some of the oil from all the ship sinkings off our E. Coast during the war.
In the world healing itself, it just healed itself....covered it with beach sand.
For anyone wondering what those jetties protruding out into open water along beaches its to do just that. As eddy/rip tide currents run along and parallel to the beach, these jetties cause the water to stop and have to change direction. When that happens, sand particles picked up along the beach are deposited. Aerial views of jetties that have been in place for an extended length of time will show you just how the sand has stacked up behind them.
