We had a customer who ran 13 Zetor Chrystals, 10 in the fields and 3 in the workshop. I sold him a Ford 7000 for a specific job on a low bean harvester and after the season's end he put it to work on a chisel plough and four furrow plough. After a years work he came to my office and told me that all the 7000 had cost him after a year was oil and filters. He then asked what sort of a deal would he get to change the 13 Zetors for 13 7000s. I worked out the figures and put it to my governor who went through the roof because he did not want those tractors in stock.
I got over ruled and the deal did not take place. Think it was a bit shortsighted as we were in a Zetor area and they would have sold. I took in an Ursus of the same horsepower, around the 90 mark, against a Ford 6600. I got a roasting over that and got called before the managing director. The nicest thing about that was, the tractor arrived at my depot on the Friday afternoon and by the Saturday morning it had been sold at a profit.
