And it didn't take long to find a YT thread where someone posted that the Farmall 400 gas engine is timed to 25 degrees at 1600 RPM. She runs so much better now.
I had swapped out the hydraulic pump and changed the oil and filter. I figured that I should check the timing afterward and judging by the new position that the distributor is at, I had been running it with the timing not quite correct.
