Impaired driving charges include care and control of a automobile while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Years ago some fellas would get all gassed up at a dance or a party, and just spend the night sleeping in their car. But the law would come along and tap on the window. 90% of the time the fella would have his keys in the ignition. Often to have the radio playing. If the keys are in the ignition, and the driver is a sleep, and drunk, while parked and the car not running, they still get charged with impaired driving. So after word got around on this, guys now just lift the hood, and put the keys in the engine compartment. Cops cant search your vehicle looking for your keys, but if you have them in your pocket even, they will try to press charges. The whole idea about this is , and has been argued in court. That after a drunk sleeps it off for a few hours in his car, then wakes up and drives home, he is probably still too intoxicated to be driving, But if you have no ignition keys, you are just a drunk a sleep in a car.
