That reverser unit in the 420 was kind of a tender unit.Use it carefully,don't just throw that long lever back and forth,and don't pop the clutch.If I remember right that unit was no bigger than a grapefruit,or maybe a cantaloupe. The deere dealer I worked for in the late 70's stocked all the parts for them,and kept a basket of the different parts for the customers,almost like a rebuild kit.When he sold one of those old tractors with that unit he would recommend that the buyer put it in one position and just use the regular transmission lever.I had one that had worked in the woods for nearly 50 years and was never taken apart.People used to say he operated like an old woman.
