I'm talking about the adjusting screw on the bottom of the bowl. I think it's the main jet. I tried to attach a picture because my description of what I'm talking about ain't to good. So my question is, Do the smaller carbs (2 1/4 from center to center of the carb studs) mine is 2 3/4). Is the main jet the same diameter in the smaller carbs as it is in the bigger carbs that the 801's have. Don't the 800 series tractors have the smaller carb and the 801 has the big carb. So either the bowl threads are stripped or the main jet is just a hair smaller. The problem I'm having is the main jet starts to get almost tight then you feel it slip and becomes loose again. This all started about 2 years ago I went to tractor supply and got a rebuild kit because the carb since I've had it has never been off and the tractor was running a little rough and some times had to do the ole tap on the carb trick to straighten her out. It's been 2 years or longer but I remember when putting carb back together the bowl gasket seemed just a little bit to small and the main jet was tight when I removed it but when I started the new main jet in the bowl, I remember tightening it as tight as I could finger tighten it, then put a wrench on it to tighten it up tight and in about a 1/4 of a turn it felt like it was getting ready to strip the threads so I held up from tightening it as tight as it was when I took it off. Me being in a hurry, I just slammed the carb on the tractor, no fuel leaks and it run like a champ. But lately the main jet has been dripping a tiny bit of fuel and the fuel drips and lands right on the hot exhaust pipe, not a warm and fuzzy feeling so I went to tighten it up to see if that would stop the leak and I barely turned it and it all but fell out. I'm thinking me always in a hurry bought a kit for a 800 series thinking the 801 is the same and put in the wrong main jet. Do you know if the 801 main jet is the same as the smaller 800 series carbs? This main adjusting jet is $30 my complete rebuild kit was just a few dollars more. Don't mine buying a new correct kit if they are different. Thanks
