first thing is there is no reason to find any marks just to remove the pump for repair. it can be done after the pump is gone out for repair. turn the engine in normal rotation by the front crank and if possible by the ring gear or however. you need it on TDC on compression. and without the pump on can be more difficult to know the compression stroke. but your valves should be set anyhow so once the valve cover is off that makes it easy. if the valve rockers are loose on tdc for #1 then its compression, and its running mate #6 valves will be tight. if the pump is on the tractor, pump marks would be lined up when at TDC on compression. only reason i can see to worry about finding TDC on compression for #1. plus i dont know if it has glow plugs but that is another way to find compression stroke. timing marks are on front pully or flywheel as i said not sure on them. just takes a look and see. you need a service manual, it will have the info.
