Making door panels might be one of the easiest parts of a restoration.
I am not an upholsterer by any stretch but I made new door panels, kick panels and a rear window package tray for my '51 Dodge.
You make it sound possible. I did make the rear package shelf for the Merc as the old one was gone. I just cut out heavy cardboard in the right shape and laid carpet over it. Crude but does the job. Held down by gravity though. My problem with door panels was figuring out how to attach the new ones after the old spring clips break or go missing.[/quote]
I used upholstery screws around the outside edges of the panels instead of the spring clips. The car wasn't completely original and the black screws on gray panels didn't look out of place at all.
You can do it.

I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
