Yesterday morning I was up early for the 215 mile drive out to Goessel,Kansas for the tractor and steam show..I arrived there early enough to see the parade which started on Main street at 9:30 AM..The crops actually looked better out that way than here in my part of Missouri...Just a little to the south and west of there the crops are burnt up ..It was a warm 103 degrees at Goessel but the wind blew some all day so it wasnt too bad.Locals told me that they had a 1.5-2 inch rain about 2 weeks ago..The ground was just about right for plowing..Its a great show.
Some of the highlights of the show for me were the following..
1-All the nice and very friendly people..
2-The plowing-I cant get enough of it..So few shows have a place to do this.
3-The Mennonite ladies with their tasty blueberry, apple, peach, cherry cobblers served with ice cream...That alone is worth the trip..
4-The start up of the big prairie tractors at 12:30 PM.
5-The parade on Main Street.
6-The start up of the big De La Vergne engine.
7-The threshing with a S Allis Crawler and a KTA Twin City powering them.
Its only going to let me post 9 pictures so here they are.Several other tractors-crawlers plowed but I didnt get pictures..
Next year they will be featuring Gleaner combines..
