GreenEnvy, I am an IH guy but I really do not think the Deere engines are that bad. A 30 series Deere which is from the same time frame as the IH 66s still demands a pretty good price in comparison. I do not think this would be if the engines were thought to be ready to grenade at any moment. The real problems with IH tractors of that era were 1.. the dry brakes, 2.. an antiquated shift method in the transmission that clashed tooth to tooth to engage rather then gears that were constantly meshed and shift collars engaged to select a gear, bull gear final drives where one gear tooth was carrying the entire load compared to a planetary final which splits the load simultaneously between three, 4.. a subpar open center hydraulic system. For being an IH guy I am sure good at fault finding.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
