In years of old tractor use and buying and selling when a used dealer I SAW THAT OFTEN doesnt sound necessarily real bad to me. At slow RPM SUBJECT TO LOADS there can be more current being drawn OUT of the battery than the genny can supply back IN. A coil ignition might draw around 4 amps which the genny needs to replace remember, and at low RPM it just may not if alllllllllllll isn't up to par !!!!!!!!!
Things that may or may not help are: Tighter Belt,,,,,,,Increase idle RPM,,,,,,,,Clean up commutator and insure brushes are long enough,,,,,,,insure brush hold down springys are working properly...
Unless it becomes a problem IM NOT A FAN of a rookie getting into the VR and trying (especially if not all the equipment or experience) to adjust it, but hey whatever works for you go for it
