I remember my 6th grade teacher wanting to make a bet that the first sentence in the unit on Mexico in our geography book refers to The United States of Mexico. He claimed that's the real name for the country of Mexico. The label doesn't say USA, it says United States. Maybe China is referring to themselves as United States of China now? Same way that North Korea is actually the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
I'll agree, it's wrong to make that claim on the box, but at the same time people are taken in by such claims all the time without thinking it through. Just like the TV ad running for a wheeled walker that claims it was ''designed and patented in America''. Nothing about where it was manufactured. Even then, where in America? North America? Central America? South America? Some people just go blind when they see the flag and don't even stop to ask questions.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
