I have a Household Hazardous Waste facility about two miles from my house. Useful non-hazardous stuff is made available free to county residents. I find all kinds of stuff there, much beyond spray paint, Armorall, and plant food. This week I found six unopened quarts of Ford auto tranny fluid and an unopened tube of #2 grease, all for free. I've also found several unopened gallons of green antifreeze, many bottles of power-steering fluid, lots more AT fluid, wiper fluid, a few motor oils, lots of penetrating oil (spray and bottles), anti-seize lube, wheel-bearing grease, various oil treatments, etc., etc. I don't use some of this stuff in my newer vehicles, but for servicing my 1980 beater pickup and my Ford 8Ns and Farmall Cub tractors that get very little use, and for greasing the fittings on my Deere garden tractors,I have no problem with unopened grease, oil, antifreeze, etc. I even grabbed an almost-full 5-gallon can of gun grease I can use if a grease shortage should strike.
(FWIW , it's not grease but a bit oily, I've treated my house decks and three trailer decks, picnic table and other outside wood with free Thompson's and other water-seal products from the recycle place. It's amazing how many unopened cans of Thompson's show up. A gallon can this summer was on sale at a big-box for around $16.)
