I just wanted to give an update on the Briggs & Stratton model 550 and 950 engines that we have on several transfer pumps for nurse tanks, as it may help others. We were having problems with them creating water in the gas tanks despite keeping them covered when not in use, and also NOT running corn squeezins for gas in them. What I found is the new style tall plastic caps are not vented,or at least none of mine were. I replaced them all with the Briggs part number 794641, which is the short metal, and vented caps like what was supplied when these engines were 1st introduced. This has solved the water manufacturing issue. 1 engines metal gas tank was rusted so terrible that it had to be replaced with a plastic donor tank from another scrap engine, to continue use of the pump. I guess this could be a case of if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it,as the old style cap is the fix. Not the new tall plastic ones.

If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
