Whenever hand drilling, it's best to use a drill guide block.
It's a steel block with a known straight hole drilled to guide the Helicoil drill bit. The block is clamped in place or bolted with remaining good threaded holes.
Installing the Helicoils in holes drilled and tapped crooked greatly reduces the holding power of the new bolts, encourages breaking and galling!
