When you have many stumps too close together to mow and too big for the little terramite to dig, I find it easier to cover all them with dirt and have a raised flower bed. I always have a pile of dirt and gas for terramite isn't that expensive.
A stump grinder will leave behind a lot of wood underground. I've had stumps ground before and 15 to 20 years later I'm adding dirt to a sink hole in the yard..
I'll use stomp covers and wait for mother nature to compost the stump. On occasions after the stump has composted, I've removed the stump cover and moved flowers to another stump cover..
