I wanted a tiller for my small garden. I don't have a tractor with a hydrostatic tranny. I looked for a long time before I found this JD270 garden tractor.
It came with a 30 inch tiller and 48 inch mower deck. A 17 hp Kawasaki. The guy that I bought it from put new rear tires on it. New mower blades, battery and tiller tines. He sold it to me for $1500 claiming that's what he put into it.
I discovered the tiller didn't work very well. Whoever put the new tines on it, put them on backwards. The tiller tines go in the opposite direction as the tractor tires.
My neighbor would till my garden with his Massey. It has a 5 ft tiller. My JD tiller does a better job vs the Massey.
If you can't find a good tiller, look for an old garden tractor with a tiller. Wheelhorse was a good garden tractor that had tillers.
I'm very happy with my purchase.
I bought a second JD to put the mower deck on. I leave the tiller on the JD270.
