If the pedal is not held down then the clutch is not going to come loose since it is being held tight to the flywheel. That is the reason for the blocking the pedal. Now for wear on the throughout bearing. If that wears out the bearing then the clutch needed to come out anyway. I've never worn a throughout bearing in all my life so far. I've had them go bad from lack of grease. But never wore one out. So if it is greased it would be fine for this issue.
