Hello BKS welcome to YT! Are you at all familiar with these older IH tractors? Does this tractor have the shuttle shift forward and reverse option? Not real common, that could add to the possibilities of what may be causing the issue. Otherwise does it have a Torque Amplifier? If it is a regular gear drive machine with the TA it may have some problem with bearings on the input shaft or on the transmission lower counter shaft. Or something is jammed in the gears of the lower shaft. I believe that something could also be wrong in the TA. I cannot pinpoint what exactly that might be, it is not a real common occurrence to have this type of a symptom from a TA. A while back there was a poster on here who was reporting a similar issue. I will have to look back and see what the resolution may have been. If I remember the member posting about it stopped replying to the thread. As an addition I will add a link to the CNHI online parts page for that tractor. Go to the Clutch section and subsection 098. Under the cover number 7 is where the small direct dry clutch for the TA. Might pull that off just for the heck of it to look down in there. The thing about it is that clutch stops when you are operating in low TA so it really cannot cause this problem in my way of thinking. Which does lead to the question of if the tractor dies the same thing in low TA. Another I might suggest it to see if having it on a hard surface and in 4th gear low range if two men one on each rear tire can still move the tractor forward. This is because the low range is driven by a one-way clutch that overruns in a scenario where the engine is supposed to hold back the tractor through the drivetrain. If it can be pushed this would tell you the transmission lower shaft is not locked up. May even give this a second try with the clutch blocked down. Lastly, in the diagram above remove the next plate down, number 5. This will uncover the PTO drive gear compartment in the front and the TA gear section in the back. I have no idea what you will see but look around anyway. The gears of the speed transmission on that model are right below the gearshift and slightly behind it. The whole rear cover has to come off to look in there.

Today's Featured Article - A Lifetime of David Brown - by Samuel Kennedy. I was born in 1950 and reared on my family’s 100 acre farm. It was a fairly typical Northern Ireland farm where the main enterprise was dairying but some pigs, poultry and sheep were also kept. Potatoes were grown for sale and oats were grown to be used for cattle and horse feeding. Up to about 1958 the dairy cows were fed hay with some turnips and after that grass silage was the main winter feed. That same year was the last in which flax was grown on the farm. Flax provided the fibre which w
