I am not a John Deere guy have worked on a few New Generation and tractors but not a 4WD of that era. My first question is does the tractor have its original engine? Or does it have a 55 series replacement? I have read there is a problem with a capped hollow dowel pin for the flywheel in the crankshaft that cracked and passes oil through that into the engine. Not sure what transmission but it pump oil through a shaft to oil the pilot bearing which lead to the oil transfer. Wore out is showing you pictures from the Deere online parts catalog for your tractor, I will add it in the link below.
