That process is pretty simple compared to having to heat the head with a blow torch!
That one must be in really good condition, usually that first cold start is a real challenge! I hear using the powder cartridge is not good for the engine, blows grit into the cylinder.
Once up and warmed up, they start easy. Not sure about the crawlers, but the tractors did not have reverse gears. The engine had to be stopped and started in reverse. But a good operator could cut the fuel, let it coast down, catch it on the last compression stroke rebound, and start it back up without leaving the seat!
