I had 3 bugs. Valves are the biggest issue. Mine had no oil filter and it was recommended to change oil every 1500 miles and adjust the valves the same time.
A trip back from Florida one valve broke off and put a big dent in the piston, locked the engine about 250 miles from Terre Haute.
I sold the car after I got it fixed.
Hitler lost the war, but he even by sending the VW to the USA.
Sorry, you couldn't give me a bug.
The heater and defroster sucked.
Great car for driving on snow covered roads.
Only 25 mpg. One of my cars had the gas tank behind the spare tire. A tin can for a front bumper. Avoid a front end collision. The spare tire is in the front trunk and so is the gas tank.
I know a young girl that had a bug. Went over elevated RR tracks too fast. The car went airborne, the rear wheels acted like a sling shot when the car landed it flipped and rolled.
I wouldn't buy a bug for a young kid. Kids are prone to having accidents and I don't think VWs are safe. No frame for the bumper to attach to and you could bend the bumper very easily. My late wife had a VW with auto stick shift. She forgot to set the parking brake. Opened the door to get out. A gust of wind blew her car into a telephone pole and beat the front bumper.
I hate to be a downer. I just tell it like I see it..

But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
