Time and again , We have no choice But to give up Great ones in our life's to Gods beckoning call . So Many Of Us Have great big hole in Our Hearts . I believe God Loves Joel Hubbard . Therefore, Joel was granted a very good day on His last day , Friday was payday ,True . But more importantly He and My sister Linda were able to take a load of logs to Mitchel that day. Beautiful warm Indian summer day . that could not help to fill a heart with cheer . I called Him , right after He parked the truck , And We made plans to go to Lanesville for a fish Fry that Nite , He had a few errands in town and stopped by Napa to see Corey Got some Stabil for the Harley He was riding , Then got a large Tea from circle K , He then rode home by way of Downtown out the winding curves of Heidelberg rd. . and crossed 135 just fine and was heading home at a leisurely pace when disaster A -fib struck Him , consequently He lost all reasoning and tumbleed off to the road and got a concussion . Joel was born a Hundred years too late . He was the man That Stood in the Gap ! I met Joel in the 7th grade when He went to Floyd central for a semester.. He was a good pal then, I knew He was staying with His grandma And then He disappeared , And then nearly 10 yrs later , my sister Linda brought Him home 1 day . And it has been good times thru thick and thin with a grin or a grimace ever since . Joel was like the John Wayne for Our family , Anytime there was troubles , Breakdowns or someone needing a helping hand ,,.All You had to do was ask , And There would come Joel ,, Many Of you are shaking Your Heads , So the reality is His family was as big as this county , I guess He was John Wayne for You too. Joel was easy to like , And easy to get along with . And i think He could work with just about anyone and get along just fine . His personality and demeanor reflect a little of John Wayne and a rough edge of a Grizzley bear. He had wisdom the style of Jed Clampet and enthusiasm for a project at times like that of Jethro on the Beverley Hillbillies . Joel was fun to be with ,and He didn't mind if strangers thought He was a Junior Samples Type , He Knew then He had the winning edge to negotiate . Joel , was Honest , Loyal ,Dependable , Intelligent ,Hardworking ,Genuine , Charismatic, Generous ,and Loving ,,. wise beyond His years, Our Pal Jerry said He could Go on and on telling of the value s and good virtues that Joel lived . But if for one ONE Bad thing , It is that Joel is no longer with All of Us. WE so much enjoyed His company . Joel was magnet for Kids and was a kid at heart . on the street or stores little kids would often stare at Joels beard and giant stature and wonder if He was Santa Claus , And he loved playing them up. He played Santa Clause a dozen times or more over the yrs . But One Nite Joel got to be abominable snowMan!... Sorry Jerry i just gotta Tell this some 20yrs ago They had taken Joel Willys up on the hill during a heavy deep snow , and as luck would have it got a flat tire , and another was losing air that was diagonal from the flat , it was getting dark , They chose to head back .But they got stuck , and kept scooting sideways over a hill on account of those 2 flat tires ... they had a come along winch and cranked the Jeep away from the steep slope . And Got it set for a running start with Jerry driving . Joel stood next to a cedar tree about 8 inches around, And hollered Head to the edge of this tree . And Go Hard So you don't slip over the side its Gonna be tite , but You can Make IT .. Go ,, GO Go , So Jerry dumped the clutch and gave that Will ys all it had a bobbing and weaving and got safely across and come to a stop as He squeeze bumped the tree that Joel was standing under . WELL ,,.that little bump caused all the snow that tree was holding TO come cascading down on Joel . Jerry Said He Knew better than to laugh , But It was so funny,. They were about froze Half to death , And he wanted to both laugh and cry ,,.. But could not do either . Looking at Joel JOEL HE Just stood there a second with that i oughta pile drive You Look :. And then started Laughing ,: Go ahead Jerry and laugh because I know its just killing You . And They Safely got back to the warmth and safety of home. Joel helped as a lead mechanic on many a job that I was afraid to tackle on My own , And I Know He helped many that were in over their head . He would study the book and figure it out and set the timing right on a injection pump that others had given up on , And he would have that motor roaring like a lion and purring like a kitten . Joel Was Country and He proud of His Heritage And his brother and sister who went on to college.he was proud that They were working with the Nasa Space programs Joel knew he liked working with his hands , . He did not care for college. But He deserved a degree . but as far as i know Hard Knox Institute is not a credited as a college of higher learning .He would have made a Great teacher . Because He Really was a teacher to Us . , He did not have a Master Mechanic plaque , But he certainly deserves one. He did not have a degree in psychology or a seminary school degree But one could sit down and tell their troubles and He would give them advice that would line up with bible teaching with hope and encouragement .And a secret was safe with Joel. He did not receive a Master Farmer degree ,. But You ought to see the cattle, crops and the garden he and Linda and the family raised year after year. Joel Loved and was proud of Linda always ,He Loved His children and grand babes . And EACH and Every one All seem to give Him good reason to be proud.. He Will want Us to Go forward . and He will live on in Our hearts As I wrote this last nite ,. i thought Golly ,,,This is not a Eulogy , It almost seems to be a roast party of Joels wonderful life . we should all toast to Our friendship and prosperity We All shared . And He would say Gee thanks Guys.. That was a great evening of fun. . And come Monday We would all Go back to work ... I Wish He could pull himself up into the log truck and go through the gears again like the professional trucker he was .. And then , Go on living with Us next week , and face the challenges of the day as always...Joel gave Us enough heart to make it on , The rest of Our Life is Up to Us ,.. Because , He really Is gone to eternity , And To So many here today,,, That Is a Hard fact to Swallow ,.. He will be sorely missed . We called one another often, and pain bouncing off ideas and schemes and plans And every now and then We did something that was GREAT. My sadness is but a a penny to what the immediate family sorrow . And I vow here and now to assuage in any way i can to help them and Love them all thru it. I Pray that God gently allowed Heavens gates to swing wide for Joel and He is with so many that We All knew. here in this life. And Hopefully when Our time comes, we will be allowed into Heaven too . If We lead Our life Right , with The Love Of jesus Christ In Our Hearts and practice the teachings of the bible I think we all stand a pretty good chance . But We will have to work at it . Goodbye Joel , You are truly a Great American and one of the best pals any one could ever ask for .
