Hello everyone, Just an FYI, I posted on the CASE board but it's kind of slow over there, hoping someone here can help. I have a steady oil leak coming from what I think is the base of the tachometer housing. Tractor is a 1983 CASE 1490.
If you look at the pictures the part leaking is behind the shiny hand fuel pump. One picture is before I wiped it down and the other is a cleaned up version. As you can see there is what looks like a Boss in the engine block with a set screw and a black cable running out the top. I am hoping there are replaceable parts in there, perhaps an O ring or something, I have not found a rebuild kit yet searching for Tachometer rebuild kit on the CASE parts page. If you search for tachometer you get tons of tach cable responses. The other end of that black cable goes to the center Dash for the rpm's and hour meter counter. I just don't want to start prying on something that isn't supposed to move?
Has anyone done this and can shed some light on what I need to do to get access, Is there a snap ring hiding in there?

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
