I've just bought a model 40, the only numbers I've got is what is in the cast iron. *M1788T-*M1782T-*M1790T-*M2495T that was found on the engine, transmission 'rear axle also I've got a number off of the steering box it's hard to read but *S125998 is the number I believe. The steering is the main problem on the old tractor but it's hard to figure out what parts I need especially when I dont know what model I have. If anyone could help me out i sure do appreciate it so much. My uncle who just past away was my supervisor when it came to helping me out with with antique tractors, we have restored a model C and B allis chalmers but I'll try to continue what he loved best if god is willing!

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
