Back in 1960 John Deere seized the number 1 place from IH. When IH tried to catch up, Deere released the 20 series tractors as a final knockout punch. All the companies just deteriorated, IH merged with Case, MM, Oliver, Cockshut, and White became a big company, Allis became part of AGCO, MH and Ferguson joined, and Ford left the tractor business.
John Deere is still the number 1 tractor company out their, both in sales and quality. The other companies didn't see it coming, because John Deere released the 330-830 series with a big fanfare.
The two-cylinder tractors used a lot less parts and were more durable. Farmers liked the fact that all the adjustments could be done while standing and the comfortable operators platform.
With the new Generation tractors they were way ahead with their comfort and ease of operation. In fact, all the companies used JDs ROPs design because of a deal with IH.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
