40 years ago Terre Haute had many machine shops in the back of auto parts stores. Even had a place that rebuilt camshafts.
Those places are gone after Auto Zone came to town with lifetime warranties on starters and alternators. Napa is the only Auto parts store remaining and they have little business.
You will be lucky to find a machine shop let alone shopping for the cheapest machine.
There is no longer a Radio Shack or a store to buy electronic parts. No one repairs electronic equipment and some can't be repaired.
I no longer rebuild engines because engines last longer.
40 years ago, it would cost me $600 to completely rebuild an engine. $800 to rebuild a 8 cylinder. That's everything, new freeze plugs, oil pump, water pump, cam and crank turned, new pistons, rings, gaskets, bored and valve job.
I can't remember the last time I rebuilt engines.
Good luck finding a machine shop. Pay what they charge.
