Well as i was told by a Ron Kenas (sp) head service manager at Dexter axle when i stopped by on my way home from Iowa with three tractors on the deck of my trailer and had lost three of the four brakes on my tandem dual trailer That the brakes were NOT designed to stop you just slow you down and stopping power was the trucks job. . He told me if i wanted stopping power then to go with Hyd brakes or AIR brakes . BUT while i was there they did FIX my brakes for me , i just stopped to BUY the parts and see if i could get better braking out of them . My truck at the time was having braking issues on days when the outside temps went above 85 degrees and on a long pull where you were still holding road speed but working the 460 with 1/2 to full throttle . The anti lock control valve on that 88 F 350 sat just inches away from the left exhaust down pipe and the heat would boil the brake fluid out of the valve and back up into the master cylinder and when you put your big hoof on the whoa pedal to whoa it went to the floor and you had NOTHING . The only way to get braking back was to bleed the brake system and then it waws fine till you worked her again . To keep brakes on the truck i had to remove and do away with the anti loc.
