I have a 1956 60 which has gotten stuck in two gears. Eventually I was able to bump it enough that it popped out of one. I had the tractor in the shop for another ailment and mentioned the problem to the mechanic. All he did was to weld a tip on the shifter, effectively lengthening it to its original length so it wouldn't come out of the fork. This was an inexpensive fix and there has been no problem since.
