I learned long ago to use ether sparingly or better yet not at all. I know some manufacturers will void warranty if evidence of ether was used. I have seen engines last decades with regular ether use and I know of engines that have failed in minutes from ether abuse. It has been discussed on here before that with the exception of one or two manufacturers, ether is not made as potent as it used to be. I have noticed this firsthand on the rare occasion I do use ether at work. While I have used ether, I prefer to use 2 cycle mix in a spray bottle or flammable brake cleaner both work just as well as ether without all the detonation and therefore less risk of damage to the engine.
