When on ''dim'' the resistor on the light switch converts some of the electrical energy to HEAT rather than sending it to the lamp filaments.
What are you doing that requires using the ''dim'' setting?
Unless driving on the road at night, keep the lights on ''bright'' and the resistor will be out of the circuit and NOT heating up.
Heck, by the lighting standards of modern vehicles even on ''bright'' your old tractor headlights would be BY FAR the dimmest lights on the road, even on bright.
So, once again I ask ''what are you doing that requires ''dim''/barely glowing headlamps''?
